The Friendly Law Academy Mission

The mission of the Friendly Law Community Learning Academy is to democratize knowledge by making legal understanding, mental wellness, and community wisdom accessible to all.

We aim to cultivate a learning space where diverse voices lead, healing is prioritized, and education empowers everyday people—across all ages, identities, and experiences—to shape a more just, inclusive, and informed society.

Through accessible courses in English and Spanish, we support a movement where teaching and learning are shared responsibilities, and where knowledge becomes a tool for collective dignity, resilience, and transformation.

Who can become an instructor in the Friendly Law Community Learning Academy?

Anyone with knowledge, lived experience, or skills to share can become an instructor.
Whether it’s legal information, life skills, art, wellness, organizing tools, or lived experience—if it’s legal and rooted in respect, there’s space for your voice here. You don’t need a formal title to be a teacher. If you have knowledge that can help others grow, understand, or heal, this Academy is for you. We believe that community education is a powerful force—and everyone has something valuable to share.

What kinds of courses are offered in the Friendly Law Community Learning Academy?

All kinds—because learning should reflect real life.
Our courses span topics like legal rights, mental health, communication, art, community organizing, language, wellness, financial literacy, storytelling, and more. Some are taught by professionals, others by community members sharing wisdom from lived experience.
Courses are available in both English and Spanish, and new ones are added regularly. Whether you’re here to deepen your knowledge or explore something new, you’ll find a course that speaks to you.
